22nd, 23rd, & 24th classes (November 12, 17 & 24) - Navier-Stokes equations and Introduction to CFD - Application to VIV
- Viscous flow (Navier-Stokes) equations in 2-D and A quick glimpse at CFD
- Excerpts from the Album of Fluid Motion --- Excerpts from Crowe's book --- Instantaneous vs. mean flow
- Fluids lab on turbulence (see Fig. 9.2 where REAL (measured) data for velocity u and its average over time are shown)
- Computational modeling of viscous flow past cylinder: conditions and results and movies of the computed velocity flow field and the computed vorticity
- The Loop Current in the Gulf of Mexico and a riser (D=13 in; L=4500 ft; strakes over top 400 ft) experiencing VIV
- More images of the Loop Current: current speeds close to the free surface and current speeds and temperatures at 100 m under the free surface
