RESULTS

The following material constants have been used throughout this section:

equation360

All 2-D geometries are considered in plate stretching conditions. Thus the BEM is applied with E'=200,000 MPa, tex2html_wrap_inline287 and G'=G=80,000 MPa.

First, the linear saw-tooth method is validated in the case of a square plate in pure tension or pure shear. In this case the BEM with the linear saw-tooth correction seems to work well even when one panel per side is used[]. This should be expected because the stresses are constant functions and the displacements linear functions of the arc-length.

Next the method is applied in the case of a beam in flexure with no shear.
